[strike:1fm4mjx6]I read over on many forums that the French government is increasing VAT on A LOT of things in France, one of which is the admission price for theme parks around the country to rise in VAT from 5.5% to 19.6%.

I have only scanned over what has been said, but if this does take action and Disney does increase the prices, it will possibly happen around November time.

No one is sure if this will affect Annual Passports.

It also has been mentioned that this might affect restaurants and drinks in the park.

The act hasn't passed yet.[/strike:1fm4mjx6]

According to DisneyCentralPlaza the propsal has be declined! Ticket admission prices will not rise - however there will be a 3% VAT increase on all hotels with 4 or 5 stars. (or keys like Disney calls them)

So good news!

Theme parks are a luxury, and the whole of Europe have huge deficits. Not a surprise really.

Good Lord, that is one heck of a difference isn't it? It will surely have a large impact on the number of people visiting the park. The value of the Euro already makes it a lot more expensive than it was a couple of years ago, putting many people off. It would make a big difference to our trip next year, we usually only go to the fast food outlets as husband is self employed and we can't really afford to 'splurge' too often. We were hoping to visit a couple of the table service places and maybe a character meal or two as we have booked so far in advance and have time to save. We shall have to wait and see now.

I hope the drink prices do not go up as I KNOW for a fact that Disney gets ALL of its drinks from Coca-Cola for free and is 100% profit. They best eat the cost of the VAT as drink prices are already stupidly expensive.

I thought France had reduced the level of VAT, like the UK did a couple of years ago.  Most of the menu's posted outside restaurants in the park have some sort of small print is at the bottom about a reduction in VAT so maybe the VAT is just going back up to what is was??

here's a DLPinfo article at the time, and yes it was previously 19.6%
hopefully we will see DLP absorb some of this cost themselves, and hopefully they'll remember they didn't actually reduce all their restaurant menu prices by the full amount at the time.

Well that makes more sense then. Perhaps I have never noticed the difference in price because the value of the Euro altered at around the same time.

Great, just in time for my trip :( We have to buy our tickets separately too as we're not staying on site - can barely afford them as it is  ](*,)

I had heard the same thing actually, I heard that they buy the cups though, and that the Coke or whatever is free.

Well it's very simple and smart marketing if you go out and buy a coke, a fanta or a dasani water when you are in a happy place, then you'll start to associate being happy with those products. They are offered for free as ONLY coca-cola products are sold at Disney parks as soft drinks, you won't see the competitor's (pepsi) products there. This is the same way that McDonalds has children's play areas as children associate being happy with being at McDonalds. [Yes I do love studying marketing]

Also, Coke sells 2.5BILLION cans of Coke ALONE per day worldwide and each costs them a fraction of a cent to produce so this sort of marketing is very clearly working. It works well for Disney well as well - they get free drinks and get 100% profit. (I'm not sure whether they pay for the cups as Vegitabeta was saying, but even if they do, those would cost hardly anything.

Great news for our upcoming trip to Puy Du Fou, Futuroscope, Parc Asterix, DLP and WDSP. However, bad news for the hotels we like to stay in.
